Princes Street tram stop

Princes Street tram stop is a planned stop on the Edinburgh Trams route between Edinburgh Airport and St Andrew Square. The stop was completed as part of the initial track laying work in Princes Street in 2009, and was used to display the first delievered tram in 2010.

Owing to the significant cost overruns, the tram route between Haymarket and St Andrew Square was cancelled, two years after the track was laid.[1] This caused a significant amount of anger from various sources, and led to the council overturning this decision and announcing it would build the full route as far as the intended terminus in September 2011.[2]

Stop Information

Princes Street is the busiest shopping street in Edinburgh, and the tram line will run right down this busy thoroughfare. The tram stop is intended to serve the National Gallery of Scotland and Princes Street. The tram tracks were laid in late 2009, and a cobbled area in Princes Street indicates the proposed location of the tram stop.
